New to the scene? Avocado Vision Training can show you how to go from newbie zero to absolute hero in just 100 days!

New jobs are tough, challenging and exciting all rolled into one. It’s incredibly hard to just leap into a team who are already functioning and have all that history (remember the time, Thabo locked his keys in the car after the office party so everyone stayed to help him and we ended up not going home at all? Yeah we didn’t think so… you weren’t here). The environment can be tricky to navigate, and it’s stressful learning not just your team’s, but your role, and getting a handle on the business and it’s unique quirks, all while trying to impress the socks off your new boss.

Talking of bosses, in the competitive market we have today, you can bet your morning doughnut, that your immediate boss is looking at you to be the silver bullet. Oh she won’t have said anything, but when you asked for the additional performance bonus, and she wrote it into your contract, you’re pretty much guaranteed that she would make you earn every single cent and more.

However even with all the little sandbags of issues preventing your climb to the top, it is possible to set goals and achieve just enough to make a positive impact in your first 100 days on the job.

Have a Positive Attitude

There is nothing better than having and expressing a positive attitude. Let your enthusiasm for being part of the team show. And always leave non-work problems at home. There’s plenty of time to bring them up to date on the family gossip once you’ve knocked their socks off.

Dress Professionally

First impressions often turn into long-term perceptions and reputations. Never underestimate the importance of dressing professionally in your new job. Casual Fridays? Keep it classy for a few months and leave the flip-flops at home.

Be a Team Player

With more and more corporate focus on teams and team work, it’s really important to show your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get it done. To be a part of the team, you need to work together towards the common goal. Show loyalty to your co-workers, willingness to take on the not-so-much-fun work and focus on sharing any recognition you get with the team.

Ask Questions!

No one expects you to have all the answers on your first day. Ask questions and take advice. No one will judge you for coming to them for a little guidance. It’s much better to ask if you are unsure, than to flounder and fail.

Take Initiative

As you finish a body of work, and are ready to handle a bigger workload, take the initiative and ask for more assignments. Whatever you do, don’t just sit there waiting for your next project.

Do the Time

Be on time. Come in early and stay a little later. There’s nothing that can affect your reputation faster than routinely coming into work late or leaving work early - especially during these first days.

Avoid Office Politics

As with any social environment, the workplace is full of rumors and gossip. Your mission is to keep your nose clean of all of it for the first few months. No, seriously, this is a good tip for any time and not just in the first 100 days.

Join us for a 90 minute training session called an Avo Byte, and see how you can delight your new company in just 100 days.
